Malappuram:
An emergency meeting of the Hospital Management Committee (HMC) has brought temporary relief to the troubled Kottappadi Taluk Hospital. Authorities have decided to shift the stalled inpatient services to a temporary building.
The plan is to relocate the inpatient ward to the Seemas building on Perinthalmanna Road, which can accommodate up to 120 beds. A team led by the hospital superintendent inspected the building’s fitness and submitted their report during Tuesday’s emergency meeting.
“We are taking urgent steps to restore full-scale services. The temporary shift is only a stopgap to ensure patients don’t suffer,” said a close source from the HMC.
The HMC agreed to send an official letter to the municipality requesting approval to proceed. The municipal governing body has assured that once the letter is received, a council meeting will be convened immediately to begin the relocation process.
Meanwhile, steps are also being taken to restart surgical services. Surgeries had been suspended due to a fire caused by a short circuit in the operation theatre. The HMC decided to speed up the electrification work of the theatre to resume surgeries soon.
With these decisions, the hospital protection committee and local residents are hopeful that the hospital may finally overcome its ongoing crisis.
